"Ask Dr. Griffin" - Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I am a 56-year-old Caucasian woman with very deep wrinkles in my face. What kind of results can I expect from a chemical peel?
Answer: Chemical peels of varying strengths can be applied to achieve varying degrees of results. For some patients, several light to medium depth peels can often achieve results that are similar to one deeper peel treatment, with less risk and shorter recovery time.

Question: Being African American, I tend to develop keloids. Also, scrapes and cuts turn a darker shade when they heal. Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery?
Answer: People with darker skin tend to develop keloids more than people with lighter skin. Today, surgeons can use various techniques to minimize keloid formation and scarring, such as special stitching techniques and using surgical adhesive in the place of sutures to close incisions. In addition, skin lighteners can help with dark spots due to minor traumas to the skin.

Question: Recently, I lost about 100 pounds. Now the skin on my arms and on my abdomen is loose. Can plastic surgery help?
Answer: As we get older, our skin tends to lose elasticity. Older people who experience major weight loss may be left with sagging skin. Through special techniques, Dr. Griffin can excise excess tissue and tighten the skin so that it returns to a more youthful
appearance.
