Rhinoplasty

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is plastic surgery of the nose. It is commonly called a nose job or nose reshaping. This procedure is performed to correct or reconstruct the form and function of the nose and aesthetically enhance or reshape the nose.

Rhinoplasty can:

  • enhance the proportions of the nose
  • improve nose size in relation to the face to create harmony
  • reduce the bridge of the nose or the size and position of the nostrils
  • remove a bump in the nose
  • repair a broken nose
  • reduce the size and appearance of the tip of the nose that is bulbous, hooked or drooping
  • reduce nostrils that are too large or wide
  • correct impaired breathing due to structural defects in the nose- a deviated septum. A deviated septum is a condition where the bone and cartilage that divides the nose in half is off center causing difficultly breathing. The surgery for this condition is called a septoplasty, and is frequently combined with rhinoplasty to improve the appearance of the nose.

Rhinoplasty is one of the top five plastic surgery procedures in the U.S. Why? Because your face one of the first things people notice about your appearance. And, your nose is a central feature of your face.

Every day, people judge you by your face. In the age of selfies, the way you look is constantly in your face! So being displeased with the way your nose looks, can impact how you feel about yourself as well as your interaction with others.

Choosing plastic surgery is an investment in yourself. The decision to undergo rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons can provide a boost to your self esteem and confidence. Studies report notable psychological benefits including improved social interactions.

It is important to understand that no nose is perfect. Asymmetry is natural. While requesting a nose like Nicole Kidman’s or Leonardo DiCaprio’s, will help Dr. Griffin understand your desired outcome, he is limited by your bone structure, skin thickness, and the cartilage and muscles. Thus, having realistic expectations can help Dr. Griffin create the best, most aesthetically pleasing and natural looking nose for your face. You can make yourself more handsome or beautiful without giving up your ethnic identity. Traditional ideals of beauty no longer apply.
